About Babel Institute

Babel Institute is an independent, nonpartisan public policy think tank dedicated to advancing practical policy solutions to the political, economic, and social challenges facing young people around the world. Our Regional Studies Program, which covers the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Africa, conducts research and analysis on key policy issues affecting youth in their respective regions.

Position Overview

Join Babel Institute’s Research team this summer to support policy research and regional monitoring at a youth-focused think tank.

Research Assistants will help track recent developments across the regions covered by Babel Institute’s Regional Studies Program, including the United States, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. They will identify credible sources, gather background information, verify facts, and prepare research notes that support fellows, scholars, contributors, and editors.

The role is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in public policy, international affairs, journalism, and youth-focused research.

Responsibilities

  • Track recent developments across the regions covered by Babel Institute’s Regional Studies Program

  • Gather background information to support research and publication work

  • Verify names, dates, quotations, statistics, and other factual references

  • Prepare research notes and source lists

  • Support fellows, scholars, contributors, and editors with research-related tasks

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States

  • Interested in public policy, international affairs, journalism, or related fields

  • Strong reading comprehension and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to organize information clearly

  • Prior research experience is preferred but not required

Compensation

This is an unpaid volunteer position. A stipend may be offered if funding becomes available.

Time Commitment

Research Assistants should expect to dedicate approximately 3 to 5 hours per week to the role. Work will be completed on a flexible schedule.
